To Love, Or Not To Love...

TO LOVE, OR NOT TO LOVE... Open-hearted or close-hearted? To feel and flow with life, its sweetness, and its sorrow. To numb, detach, and enclose ourselves with walls to prevent those emotional pains. These are choices we make in every second of our lives, some are so easy they go unnoticed. Naturally moving us from one scene to the next, others seem to reveal themselves when we need a lesson or a redirection. Yet what if we don't know that we are even being tested? What if we never really did well on tests? What if these choices are so subtle, we forget they are there?  Feeling into our emotions is something many of us take for granted and unfortunately the trauma of some people's lives causes them to harden to life, closing off their hearts and withholding the love still living within their beating heart. It may be or appear easier for some than others, but still, there are choices we must make. Safety and protection, to feel secure, can have us do some really outlandish thin...

What is Reiki? What is Energy Work?

Via The Science of Being blog

It's nearly impossible to discuss Reiki without acknowledging energy work.  Having an understanding of our energy body will make this easier, so I have included a brief introduction to both here.

Let's start with a short version, shall we?

What is Reiki?

Reiki is an energy medicine or energy healing practice originating from Japan and founded by Mikao Usui.

The Reiki practitioner acts as a channel to send out more of this Divine Energy to the recipient (which could be anything, a person, place, or thing!)

What is Energy Medicine / Energy Healing?

Energy Medicine is a form of energy work where an experienced practitioner orchestrates healing of the energetic body, by encouraging the body to return to a natural state of harmony to facilitate its own self-healing capabilities.

Now, you can probably begin to see why a brief understanding of energy work is helpful when discussing Reiki.

You got it! 😃

Reiki is a combination of two Japanese words "Rei" and "Ki"

Rei can be translated from Japanese to mean spirit, soul, sacred, or ghost.

Ki can be translated from Japanese to mean vital energy.

Reiki

It is written using two Japanese kanji (Chinese characters) that can be translated to mean "spiritual energy"

Reiki is rooted in the ability of the body to heal itself by reducing stress in and around the body. The attuned Reiki practitioner acts as a conduit for this spiritual energy to pass through them and to the recipient. This can be done physically with hands-on healing over specific areas of the body, such as the Chakras (energy centers in the body) or from a distance with the power of intention. This ability to go beyond the physical form is a key component in its healing potential. Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive form of healing, working both from the inside out / outside in. The energy healing is working beyond 3D form, therefore simultaneously promoting healing on all levels, physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.

Reiki not only can help us on a physical level, but it can help us on an energetic level first and foremost. While on the surface it may not seem like much is happening, there are vast amounts of activity occurring at an energetic level. Another beautiful thing is that we don't need to see it working, for it to do its job, which no doubt brings skepticism, but the results can speak for themselves.

A Brief History...

In China, this vital force is commonly referred to as Qi or Ch'i, where practices like Qigong and Tai Chi help with balancing and strengthening the energy. Qi is a pillar of Traditional Chinese Medicine and Chinese Martial Arts.

In the Hindu traditions with the aids of Yoga and Indian medicine and martial arts, it's called prana, the Sanskrit word for breath, life force, or vital principle. Prana refers to all the cosmic energy imbued in and from the Universe.

Some Native Americans call this Kitchi Manitou or The Great Spirit and some Christians refer to it as the Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost

In the 1930s Dr. Wilhelm Reich discovered cosmic energy that he called orgone energy or orgone radiation and would later use this discovery for Orgone Accumulators. By 1941 Reich's findings on using Orgone were able to show a decrease in cancer cells. None the less his work proved controversial and eventually gained the attention of the FBI and FDA.

There are many, many names for this Universal Life Force that permeates all over the world and over the course of thousands of centuries.

Regardless of the name, you give it, can you really deny the existence? Quantum Physics revolves around the fact of an unseen life force that runs through us. Just like this unseen life force sustaining life as we know it, we are also able to emanate this out into the world as well, and Reiki can amplify this.

Through thousands of centuries and all over the world, we have names for this Divine Universal Energy that breathes life into our existence. Yet our busy modern lifestyles can distract us from this natural force which can cause us to feel depleted and drained. Drained is only one of many symptoms, that we may experience for various reasons, and when left untreated your life can start to feel out of balance, making the body more prone to "dis-ease." Essentially anything that disrupts our alignment first goes through these energetic layers before causing a reaction in our body. Our body merely responds or reacts to the change in frequency, to communicate with us what is happening.

What is the Energy Body or Subtle Body?

Similar to the array of names we have for this vital life force energy, there are just as many if not more terms used to describe our subtle, energy body. You've probably heard of the term Aura and this is one of the many ways to look at our Multi-Dimensional Self. Many sources agree that this energy field consists of at least seven additional energetic bodies beyond our most dense, and familiar, 3D body. The Human Biofield shows as many as twelve auric layers beyond our third-dimensional self!

All these many beautiful threads of our rainbow body unite to form our light body.  One thing is clear, whether we may be able to perceive these fields or not, there is a vast amount of research supporting its presence.

Energy practices like Reiki can help us to keep our Aura clear of any unwanted debris that may eventually lead to harm to our physical vessel. Ideally, we want to be able to keep our energetic field tidy, just like we would our home.

Many believe that all illness and "dis-ease" stems from a metaphysical or even spiritual origin. When our energy field is weakened, we will also start to feel "lower" or "down." Which sometimes simply means we need rest and is no cause of alarm, but over time these are signs that we need a spiritual refueling.

We can look to the ancient saying "As within so without, as above so below," which, speaks of the influence of our inner world that is often reflected back to us, as well as vice versa. This can also refer to the influence our subconscious or unconscious mind has over our conscious day-to-day reality. This also provides reason to believe in the ability of "mind over matter."

In many ways, both our conscious as well as unconscious emotions (energy in motion) fuel what we are attracting in our life. Even the feelings we would prefer to ignore, by suppressing them and not properly dealing with them, they still have an influence on our reality. When this happens, we are likely to feel out of control because on a conscious level, we believed we were clear that we didn't like what happened, however until it's properly transmuted and healed it can keep haunting us, like a skeleton in a closet. This is often why we can go through a series of patterns in our life, or even experience a downward spiral. We can create these energetic feedback loops, that either tell us we keep getting what we want, or we keep getting things we don't want, all to help us become more attuned to who we are and what surrounds us. This is where energy work comes in! We are powerful magnets and we must nurture ourselves so we can stay in tune.
